Short answer: do not replace a UCP204 with a UCP205 simply because both are two-bolt pillow block units. The first check is shaft diameter: a catalogue example for metric, set-screw units lists 20 mm for UCP204 and 25 mm for UCP205. The housing dimensions, load ratings and limiting speeds in that reference are different too.

Important data boundaryThis page uses SKF catalogue figures as a clearly labelled comparison example. They are not HTP product specifications and must not be used to approve an HTP replacement. Ask HTP to confirm the current product sheet, drawing and working conditions before ordering.

What changes between UCP204 and UCP205?

UCP units combine an insert bearing with a two-bolt pedestal housing. The code identifies a family and size, but it does not replace a dimensional drawing or an application review. In the SKF reference catalogue for metric-shaft, set-screw insert bearing pillow block units, the two examples below differ in bore size and listed operating data.

Limiting speed with h6 shaft tolerance6,500 r/min5,850 r/min

The table is useful because it shows the order of checks: bore first, then housing footprint, load direction, speed, locking arrangement, seals and lubrication. A dimensionally similar unit can still be unsuitable when these conditions change.

What to confirm before you send an RFQ

  1. Full code and visible markings. Send the complete designation from the old unit, not only “204” or “205”.
  2. Shaft diameter. Measure the shaft and state the unit in millimetres or inches.
  3. Mounting layout. Provide the base bolt-centre distance, housing height and available installation space, ideally with a photo or drawing.
  4. Locking method. Confirm whether the existing unit uses set screws, an eccentric collar, an adapter sleeve or another arrangement.
  5. Load and direction. Explain whether the unit mainly carries radial load, has shock load or sees belt tension.
  6. Speed and duty cycle. Include running speed, start-stop frequency and temperature if known.
  7. Contamination and maintenance. State whether dust, moisture, washdown or limited relubrication access is involved.
  8. Quantity and packing. State order quantity, neutral or custom packing needs, destination and any inspection requirement.

Why housing dimensions matter as much as bore size

A correct bore does not guarantee that a replacement will bolt onto the machine. Check the base length, bolt-centre distance, centre height, housing width and bolt-hole size against the existing drawing. For a repair order, a photo with a ruler next to the housing is often more useful than a partial model number.

Mounted units are available in different formats because the machine frame drives the choice: pillow blocks mount on a base, flange units mount to a side face, and take-up units allow position adjustment. NSK lists pillow block, flange and take-up formats within its mounted-unit range, which is why the mounting position should be confirmed before selecting an equivalent unit.

When the same basic code is still not enough

Do not assume interchangeability from basic dimensions alone. Seal design, locking arrangement, internal clearance, material, bearing rating, lubricant, temperature limit and inspection requirement may all change the correct choice. This is particularly important when the old unit failed early, ran hot, vibrated or worked in dusty conditions: replacing it with the same visible size may repeat the same problem.

For HTP product confirmationHTP currently presents UCP203–UCP220 as a product family. Exact dimensions and load ratings remain subject to confirmation against the current HTP list or the buyer's drawing.

A practical RFQ message

Use this short format to make the first reply more useful:

RFQ example“Please quote UCP units for a 25 mm shaft. Existing marking: [full code]. Use: [machine and load]. Speed: [r/min if known]. Quantity: [pieces]. Packing: [neutral/custom]. Destination: [country or port]. Please confirm drawing, unit weight, lead time and inspection details.”

For HTP, include the target list or a clear photo of the current unit. The available product range, MOQ, packing and lead-time details can then be discussed against the actual requirement rather than inferred from a generic code.
